Paul Monaghan was born in Liverpool and educated at Sheffield University and the Bartlett, UCL. In 1989 he co-founded the architectural practice Allford Hall Monaghan Morris.
As a founding partner of the practice, Paul is involved in the design, development and review of all projects and the strategic direction of the practice. Paul works on a wide range of projects including masterplanning, arts and educational buildings, housing (public and private sector), offices, public buildings and health facilities.
Specifically Paul has most recently been involved in Kentish Town Health Centre and Westminster Academy both of which were shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize. Other key projects include the Unity office and residential building on the historic waterfront of Liverpool; the residential building Latitude House and the re-development of Barking Town Centre.
Paul, taught at the Bartlett, UCL for fifteen years where he is now a visiting professor. He has lectured extensively throughout the UK and has been an external examiner at several Universities. In 2000 he joined the CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) Enabling Team where he specialises in helping local authorities procure well-designed schools. Paul has recently been appointed as Vice Chair of the CABE Schools Design Review Panel.
For several years he has been involved with judging and commenting on the work of other architects and has always been an active member at the RIBA and in the past has been a member on their Client Advisory panel. He is currently a judge for the RIBA Awards Panel which presides over the Stirling Prize as well as judging various architectural competitions.
