Principal, Eric Parry Architects

Eric Parry, Founder and Principal of Eric Parry Architects. Eric studied architecture at the University of Newcastle (1970-1973),the Royal College of Art (1976-1978) and the Architectural Association (1979-1980). He spent a year studying nomadic settlement in Iran 1974-1975.Eric Parry Architects was established in 1983, the year he was appointed as a lecturer in architecture at the University of Cambridge, where he taught until1997. Significant early projects include an office building at Stockley Park, Foundress Court at Pembroke College, Damai Suria luxury apartments in Kuala Lumpur and the urban interventions at London Bridge.

The practice has recently completed the complex restoration and renewal project of St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square, London which has received many accolades since its completion. Current projects include a new recital hall and associated teaching spaces for Wells Cathedral School, and the renewal and extension of the Holburne Museum of Art in Bath. The practice has also completed both a new library and award winning music school for the Bedford School.

The Practice has recently completed several highly prestigious commercial projects in the City – 60 Threadneedle Street – and West End – 23 Savile Row and 50 New Bond Street. These follow on from the high-rise office scheme in the City of London, 5 Aldermanbury Square, which was completed in 2007 and was on the Stirling Prize Shortlist for 2009, as well as winning the BCO Award for Commercial Development in 2008. Eric was elected Royal Academician in 2006. He currently serves on the Royal Academy Architecture Committee, the RIBA Library Committee, and the Kettles Yard Committee. He is a Past President of the Architectural Association (2005-2007) and has been a council member since 1995. He has served as Chair of the RIBA Awards Group as well as being a member of the and the Arts Council of England Visual Arts and Architecture Panels in previous years. Eric continues to serve as an External Examiner at various schools of architecture in the UK and past teaching experience has included lectureships at the University of Cambridge, Graduate School of Design, Harvard, USA and the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
