Susannah Hagan

Professor of Urban Studies, University of Brighton

Susannah Hagan is director of the interdisciplinary group R_E_D (Research into Environment + Design www.theredgroup.org), and Professor of Urban Studies at the University of Brighton.

She studied architecture at Columbia University, New York and the Architectural Association, London, and started and ran the MA Sustainability + Design for 10 years at the University of East London. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and of the Forum for Urban Design, New York, and has lectured extensively, from Latvia and Spain to the US and Brazil. Her published work includes the books Taking Shape: the new contract between architecture and nature (Architectural Press, 2001), and Digitalia: architecture and the environmental, the digital and the avant-garde (Taylor & Francis 2008). Her research centres on environmentally-led urban design, and the social and economic benefits it can bring to cities, with research in Brazil, Germany, Sweden and the UK.
