Nicola is an architect with a business degree. This provides a unique perspective on the built environment by understanding the complex and often contradictory interests of the occupier, owner, designer and manager of buildings. The majority of her work focuses on capturing client or organisational demand and translating that information into an appropriate spatial solution. The spatial solution is often multi scale, looking at a building, a campus or a city.
Nicola has worked in North America, Singapore and the UK with a client base including multi national organisations, universities and cities. Nicola regularly publishes and speaks at conferences. She started working for DEGW in workplace and city strategy in 1998. Nicola now runs the UK Strategy group for DEGW.
Abstract:
Nicola will focus on the design methods and processes she uses to enable collaborative working. Drawing on her envisaging work at the UCL and her role in both architecture and business, she will talk about the powerful mediating role design and the designer can play in the changing nature of work and cities.
