Prof. Peter Walker

BRE Centre, University of Bath

Prof. Walker is Director of the BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials at the University of Bath and is a chartered Civil Engineer. He has over 25 years research and consultancy experience in the fields of masonry construction, earthen construction and more recently straw, hemp and timber construction.

Abstract:’Reinventing the past: modern uses for traditional materials’
The presentation will consider the potential and future for greater use of traditional building materials, such as unfired clay, straw, hemp, lime and timber, in modern low carbon construction. The benefits and challenges for greater use of traditional materials in modern construction will be outlined, together with recent experience from building projects and findings from latest research work.
