INTRODUCTION
The renewal of the built environment will be a critical part of reducing carbon emissions in future. The popularity of new builds is increasing, however it often does so without embracing innovation in technologies or providing space for adaptation. The challenge by 2039 will be more or less the same building stock, but no use of fossil fuels. The potential of older stock must be realised by changing public expectations and making retrofitted design an aspiration.
BY 2029:
How will the potential of older stock be fully realised?
Could we future proof an entire neighbourhood or office district?
How will we incentivise the market to respond fully?
Can we make green standards a desirable lifestyle or user choice long term?
