Daventry Launch

On the 24th of January 2008 at an event in the East Midlands market town of Daventry, Building Futures ran a ‘live’ event with the toolkit in its completed form.

Hosted by the West Northants Development Corporation WNDC and developers Henry Boot, the event was played around the future of the Daventry Town centre area. Daventry’s town-wide masterplan, identifies numerous sites in the central area for redevelopment. Henry Boot is currently developing the first of these sites and has proposals under review for a large scale retail scheme. The game complemented the consultation already underway and encouraged stakeholders to think widely on their vision for the town centre core over the next 10 years.

The result was the beginnings of an area action plan that would inform future proposals and initiate local conversations. The event highlighted a number of issues concerning the nature of activity of the town centre. The groups discussed a wide range of local concerns and the event highlighted a number of shared objectives, including: the wider strategic role of a planned library building to incorporate a variety of uses, how local retailers could grow, how might specialist retailers be attracted to the town, encouraging a diverse evening economy for all ages and the desire to have a landmark public space to complement any new facilities.
